Isn’t it funny how evolution works? In high school, my mom and I would have it out about the fact that I wore and bought too many pairs of jeans. I can hear her just as clear as day, “Chelsea, you need to stop buying all these jeans. You need a pair of nice slacks or a nice skirt” but I wasn’t trying to hear it.
Now it’s like you cannot pay me enough to wear jeans. This is my eighth post, so by now you should be able to gauge my sense of style. I love to be dressed up (i.e. slacks, dresses, or skirts, and most definitely heels). Jeans just seem too informal and outright childish to me.
However, for the sake of the blog, and my audience, I decided I would throw in a couple of jean looks here and there, from time to time.
I wore this look to lunch with one of my gal pals this past Saturday. This entire look was full of things I DON’T DO. I never wear sunnies, and I almost never wear accessories. In a way I am almost a minimalist. I swear by simplicity. I just feel like when your outfit is getting the job done by itself, you don’t need other employees.
When we got ready to leave the restaurant my friend said “OMG! You look so cute. You look like a real blogger.” But rather than feeling like a real blogger, I felt like an imposter, partly because I wasn’t staying true to my own style.
As the day proceeded, I received so many compliments about the look it made me more receptive to trying out casual jeans wear, accessories, and sunnies. Moral of the story: don’t be afraid to try new looks, even if your style has evolved into something else. A fist full of rings is always fun to add flair to a casual little shindig of an outfit. A wrist full of bangles is always fun too! Speaking of which, there are some at BCBGeneration that I am dying to get. Like I said on my previous post (Monochrome Manuscript) gold is a more enriching color, so I tend to shoot for gold accessories.
When I do wear jeans there are a couple of things I prefer. For one, my jeans have to have a back pocket. My rear doesn’t protrude, if you know what I mean, so having pants with no pockets highlights that. And ummm…yeah… I rather not. I also prefer distressed jeans. It’s just something about those holey moleys. Notice that the ones I am wearing are ripped at the knees.
