Ainkas Jewels

If you know me, you know my love for fashion/artsy events. I live for a night out amongst creatives like myself. I was invited to Ainkas Jewels Spring Fashion Show Event to showcase her newest collection and it was nothing short of amazing. I think she may have invented the phrase arm candy. All her pieces were so sweet and decadent.

I am not an accessory person, but her jewelry made me want to be an over-accessorizer lol. I ended up falling in love with this one particular necklace and of course I had to have it. See it pictured below.

I had no intentions of dressing up Saturday morning after the show, but having the necklace made me want to put on clothes just so I could wear my necklace lol. I plan on going back to also purchase this necklace so that it can be my everyday necklace.

Here are a few of my favorite bracelets and cuffs featured at the show:

The event was held at The Bombshell Boutique, a humongous boutique and event space in Northwood Village. If you’re ever thinking about having a pop up shop of any kind you should definitely contact Shelly, the owner. She has been curating the most amazing events in her space. With aspirations of having my own boutique, when I met Shelly back in 2012, it was nice to see a woman of color setting examples. We always have to remember to pay homage to people that have come before us and have set examples.

And now I have another woman to add to my inspirational women list. Lamara Davis, the owner of Ainkas Jewels. As we stood and chatted at the event, I got to learn more about her and her brand. Ainkas is actually an African word meaning a woman that stands out above the rest. And baby, when you wear Ainkas Jewels, you’re bound to stand out above the rest. You’ve seen a Toblerone before right? All that chocolate goodness wrapped up in the most ornate gold packaging…well that’s what you look like in Ainkas Jewels. Lol I’m not kidding.

One of the most interesting things she said is that the purpose of Ainkas is to show women of color as chić and contemporary, something we are rarely shown as. She has been in business for five years and I predict many more years if she continues to produce these fine jewels. She has recently become a full-time entrepreneur, giving Ainkas 100% of her time. Her inspiration is her son. Once she became a single mother she had to do something for herself and for her son to prove her strength, be happy, and to make a living.

She had 300 pieces of a necklace called Powerful and Complete and she sold out of all 300 pieces. Yessss… she is a force to be reckoned with. To view more of her pieces visit her website by clicking here.
